Abia State, Nigeria – Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to ensuring Nigerians benefit from the dividends of democracy.

Speaking during a constituency town hall meeting at his residence in Bende, Abia State, on Sunday evening, Kalu announced the launch of business and family support grants targeting 8,400 families in his constituency.

He described Tinubu as a courageous leader with a strong disposition toward the Igbo community, emphasizing the importance of supporting the President’s administration.

“Tinubu is a lion killer. Without him, these achievements would not be possible. On the mandate of Tinubu, we shall stand,” Kalu declared.

As part of the initiative, Kalu announced a N500 million Business and Family Support Grant for 8,400 families, with 400 families in each ward benefiting from the scheme. Additionally, mini-bags of rice will be distributed to another 8,400 families, while 10,000 women and families will receive wrappers.

“There is hunger in the land,” Kalu said. “It is not good that I will be eating rice in my house, and you will not. These are reasons why God sent us to Abuja to represent our people. We are here to thank you because it is you who sent me to Abuja. It is your vote that will send me back to Abuja.”

The Deputy Speaker also highlighted forthcoming development projects in Bende, including efforts to address the numerous bad roads in the area. “In coming days, you are going to see massive constructions in Bende land. Bad roads in Bende are worrying us, and we are putting in all our efforts to ensure that Bende has good roads,” he stated.

Rev. Emmanuel Eke, the Abia State representative at the National Population Commission and Director General of the Benjamin Kalu Campaign Council, reflected on the progress made in the constituency over the years. He noted that more than 250 people have been employed in various sectors, with 50 appointments made between March and December 2024 alone.

Eke praised the lawmaker’s dedication and urged him to continue his impactful work, saying, “In Bende, either it is roads or schools that have been built. This journey started 23 years ago, and we thank the Deputy Speaker for his kind heart.”

Kalu’s initiatives and the support of President Tinubu, he said, are bringing significant transformation to the Bende community.
