Gombe, Nigeria – Gombe State witnessed a tragic auto crash on Thursday morning that claimed the lives of seven individuals and left 31 others injured. The incident occurred on the Kaltungo-Cham Road at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Confirming the accident, Mr. Samson Kaura, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State, revealed that the crash involved a trailer transporting soft drinks and 38 passengers, including 34 males, two females, and two children. The accident was attributed to suspected brake failure.
Among the deceased were five males, one female, and one child. Their remains have been deposited at the General Hospital Kaltungo, where the injured victims are also receiving medical treatment.
Mr. Kaura emphasized the dangers of passengers traveling in trailers, a practice often motivated by efforts to avoid high transportation costs.
“Using trailers or heavy-duty vehicles for human transportation poses significant risks. These vehicles are designed to transport goods, not people,” Kaura stated.
He urged Nigerians to prioritize safety over cost, noting, “Consider the cost of road traffic crashes and loss of lives. Always choose safer alternatives, even if they are more expensive.”
Kaura also called on drivers to maintain their vehicles properly to prevent similar incidents in the future.
