In a recent operation, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) uncovered a counterfeit bottled water operation targeting the popular brand Eva Water in Port Harcourt.
Acting on a tipoff, NAFDAC officials raided a rundown shop on Pipe Line Road, Eneka. Disguised as a pool house, the shop was found to be a front for the illicit production of fake water.
The operation exposed a disturbing process. Used Eva plastic bottles were being refilled with contaminated water drawn from a paint bucket. The water was then filtered through a dirty rubber funnel covered with cloth. To further deceive consumers, counterfeit Eva labels were applied to the bottles, and fake Eva corks were used for sealing.
One suspect, identified as Chibunna James, was apprehended red-handed while loading the adulterated water for distribution. However, the mastermind behind the operation remains at large.
Following the raid, the seized products were confiscated and transported to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
The video was posted on the X microblog account of the agency.
This discovery underscores the importance of regulatory bodies in ensuring the safety and integrity of consumer products.
