A mob has stoned and burnt to death a Christian student, Deborah Samuel, of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, in Sokoto state, in the north of Nigeria for allegedly blaspheming the Prophet Mohammed (SAW), the police in Nigeria has confirmed.
In a Video which captured the incident, which has now gone viral on the internet, a mob is seen stoning a lady clad in red and left in the pool of her blood. Her remains were later burnt. Her killers, believed to be her classmates, were heard bragging of murdering her.
Deborah had allegedly sent a voice recording to her class’s Whatsapp group decrying the religious messages sent to the group, stating that the group was for school work and not for religious messages. A part of her message was said to have insulted the Islamic Prophet Mohammed, which angered her Muslim classmates. She was attacked afterwards and killed on the school premises.
Police say Deborah was forcefully removed from the security room where she was hidden by the school authorities before she was gruesomely killed. Her assailant were said to have also burnt the security building.
Police spokesperson, Sanusi Abubakar said the police mobilised to scene of the incident upon receiving the information led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operation and other commanders to bring the situation under control. The police team, however, could not arrive at the scene soon enough to rescue Deborah from her killers.
School Shuts down over Killing
The Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto has been shutdown after the killing. Police say they have mobilized more personnel to the premises to ensure safety and order.

In a statement signed by the police spokesperson, Sanusi Abubakar, the police said it has arrested two persons in connection with the killing.
Governor Tambuwal Meets Christian Community Over Student’s Death
The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Thursday, cut short his engagements in Abuja, following the killing of Miss Deborah Samuel, a student of the College of Education, Sokoto.
Tambuwal, after cutting short the visit, returned to Sokoto where he held a closed door meeting with heads of security agencies in the state as well as the state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Fr. Nuhu Iliya at the Government House.
