The Delta State government of Nigeria has designed a rural youth skills acquisition programme to help young people in rural communities with the necessary skills to become self-reliant.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Mr. Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, Delta’s Commissioner for Youth addressed the beneficiaries saying;
Mr. Egwunyenga urged the beneficiaries of the programme to take the opportunity seriously while showing absolute commitment and pay particular attention to every detail in order to get the best of the training programme.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa giving his opening remark at the flag-off in the same vein, stressed that the youths are an integral part of the nation’s population and that nation building is not complete withou them.
Speaking at the ceremony, Okowa said:
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the gesture promising to utilize the opportunity.
A beneficiary said :
“After the training, they gave us our starter pack, I believe that this is our starting point, and soon we will have more people work for us in the labour market.”
Another beneficiary expressing his gratitude said,
“With this kind of arrangement, a lot of persons will be able to provide for themselves and also provide job opportunities for others. So it’s a great job well done.
The training programmes are expected to focus on Agriculture, public works, small and medium enterprises as well as vocational skills.
