Operatives from the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended a suspect identified as Captain Nuhu Haruna over an alleged criminal breach of trust involving a staggering sum of N1,020,000,000 (One Billion, Twenty Million Naira).
The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by a petitioner who disclosed that in December 2023, he engaged with the suspect for a foreign exchange transaction worth N1,020,000.00.
The petitioner purportedly transferred the funds to the suspect’s account with the expectation of receiving its equivalent in dollars. However, investigations revealed that the suspect provided falsified evidence of payment and failed to deliver the promised foreign currency.
Preliminary findings unveiled that Haruna, purportedly posing as an airline captain, diverted the funds for personal gain, funnelling them into property acquisitions and vehicle purchases allegedly intended for his purported airline venture, Air Unity Aviation Services.
Among the assets traced to the suspect are a landed property valued at N155,000,000.00 and another at N350,000,000.
Additionally, authorities discovered three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses bearing the Air Unity Aviation Services logo, alongside four luxury vehicles believed to be part of the suspect’s acquisitions.
Following ongoing investigations, Captain Nuhu Haruna will be prosecuted by the law. The EFCC remains committed to combating financial crimes and ensuring accountability within the nation’s financial systems.
