FAAN has urged the public to assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of the crime. “We appeal to anyone with useful information to come forward to help bring the culprits to justice,” the statement read.
Owerri, Nigeria – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the discovery of the lifeless body of a pregnant woman, Mrs. Chinwendu Amadi, near the runway of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri.
The body was reportedly found naked, sparking concerns within the surrounding communities.
In a statement released on Monday and signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the authority clarified that the incident did not occur within the airport premises but close to the Runway 17 area, which borders the Umueze community.
Orah explained that on October 18, a group of youths from Awaogwu Logara, a neighboring village, were searching bush paths around the airport for a missing member of their community when they stumbled upon the body. Airport security was immediately notified, and law enforcement, including the airport’s chief of security, the Airport Commandant, and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were called to the scene.
Initial investigations led by Inspector Vicent N. from the Umuneke Police Division revealed that the deceased had sustained multiple stab wounds to her abdomen. However, the investigators noted the absence of blood splatter or signs of a struggle at the location, suggesting that she was murdered elsewhere and her body dumped near the runway.
The body of Mrs. Amadi has since been removed for further forensic examination, as police continue their investigation into the tragic incident.
FAAN has urged the public to assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of the crime. “We appeal to anyone with useful information to come forward to help bring the culprits to justice,” the statement read.
Authorities have vowed to ensure that those responsible for the gruesome murder face the full extent of the law.
