FAAN Shuts Down KFC Facility at Lagos Airport Over Discrimination Allegations

FAAN Shuts Down KFC at Lagos Airport Over Discrimination

In accordance with Lagos State laws protecting individuals with special needs, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken action by closing the KFC facility at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, effective March 28, 2024.

This decision follows a social media outcry by a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM), alleging discriminatory treatment at the airport.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, wasted no time in responding to the allegations.

She promptly deployed a management team, comprising key personnel such as the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Regional Manager South West, Mr. Sunday Ayodele, Ag. General Manager Public Affairs, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwosu-Igbo, and the International Terminal Manager, Mr. Kerri, to thoroughly investigate the incident.

Based on the findings of the investigative team, FAAN made the decision to close the KFC facility where the incident took place. Additionally, FAAN has mandated that KFC Management issue a written, unreserved apology to the affected PRM.

Furthermore, the Authority has directed that a policy statement affirming non-discrimination be prominently displayed at the entrance of the KFC facility at MMIA before it is allowed to resume operations.

In a statement released by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, the Authority expressed sincere apologies to the affected Passenger with Reduced Mobility.

FAAN reiterated its commitment to upholding the rights of all airport users and pledged to continue working diligently to prevent any infringements upon passengers’ rights.
