A devastating fire broke out at a soap factory and plastic waste dump site in Ugwagba Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, in the early hours of Saturday.

The blaze, which started around 1 am, destroyed some properties before the arrival of the state firefighters.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began in a corner of the building, with thick flames noticed by workers. The state Fire Service Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident, stating that firefighters were deployed to the scene at 1:40 am and battled to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but fortunately, no lives were lost.

The Anambra State Fire Service has reiterated the importance of fire safety and prevention, emphasizing that “fire kills but it can be prevented.” An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

This is coming few days after a devastating tanker explosion occurred at the Obiri-Ikwerre flyover along the East-West Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, resulting in the loss of two lives.
