Gunmen Attack Daewoo Convoy, Killed 4 Soldiers, Kidnap 2 Korean Expatriates in Rivers State

Gunmen attacked a convoy carrying Daewoo workers, killing four soldiers, two drivers and kidnapped two Korean expatriates of the company on Tuesday along the East-West Road in Rivers State.

The incident which occurred around 9.30am, took the workers who were headed for Yenagoa, Bayelsa state by surprise. The gunshots resulting from the incident sent shock waves across the vicinity as locals scampered for safety amidst the heavy shootings.

A source told Punch Newspaper that the gunmen trailed the expatriate workers who were being escorted by troops along the Ahoada–Abua Road and opened fire on them.

Meanwhile, a community source claimed that the attack might have been a reprisal following recent military operations that took place in the area some two weeks ago where arms and ammunition were seized.
