A lawyer named Abayomi Oladire was reportedly stabbed by Kunle Kuteyi, the husband of his client, for preparing a divorce suit against him in Ondo State.
The attack took place while Oladire was performing his legal duties for Kuteyi’s wife.
Vanguard revealed that Kuteyi used a broken bottle to stab Oladire, accusing him of having an affair with his wife and aiding her in filing for divorce. The incident occurred as Oladire was on his way to a ceremony. An argument ensued between the two men, escalating into violence.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was stabbed multiple times and was later rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital by bystanders. The attacker fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Speaking about the attack, Oladire recounted the events leading up to the incident. He explained that Kuteyi’s wife had approached him with a court judgment requiring both her and her husband to pay N2 million each to a complainant. After verifying the judgment, Oladire informed her of the court’s decision. Subsequently, she asked him to prepare divorce papers, but later decided to withdraw the divorce after her husband’s family intervened.
On the day of the incident, Oladire encountered Kuteyi, who accused him of being romantically involved with his wife and preparing the divorce papers. Despite Oladire’s explanation that the divorce was to be withdrawn, Kuteyi attacked him, biting his jaw and stabbing him with a broken bottle. Oladire managed to protect himself from life-threatening injuries.
The police have confirmed the incident and are actively searching for Kuteyi, who remains at large. Authorities have called for more enforcement to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice is served.
