The police in Rivers has killed one Gift Okpara, also known as 2Baba, a serial kidnapper and alleged killer of DPO Bako Angbashim after a raid at his hideout in Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.
Gift Okpara aka 2baba was the Iceland cult leader in Rivers state. He was killed during a joint security raid in Idu-Ekpeye community in Ahoada East. The police said some of his loyalists snatched his body and escaped with it afterwards.
Late Angbashim, a superintendent of police and then Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada East Police Division, was murdered and his body dismembered in 2023 after his team was ambushed by 2baba’s gang in Odiemudie community in Ahoada East. A video of his dicapitated body was then shared online by members of the deadly gang.
Following the murder of Amgbashim, the governor of Rivers, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, placed a N100 million bounty on the suspected kidnapper and his gang for the murder the DPO.
Speaking on news of 2baba’s death, Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson of the Rivers Police command, said a joint operation of the police, army, navy, air force, Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), raided the gang’s hideout on February 17, killing 2baba and dispersing his gang.
Angbashim Killer 2baba’s Corpse Exhumed by Police
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that it has exhumed the body of notorious cultist, Gift Okpara also known as 2Baba in Idu-Ekpeye community, Ahoada East Local Government Area.
2baba’s body was snatched by members of his gang after he was killed by the police in a raid at his hideouts.
He was given a secret burial in the forest of Odiemudie by his gang members before police raided his grave to exhume his body at midnight.
Police however, following a tip, swooped on some loyalists of the late cult leader who then led them into a deep forest where his remains were buried.
“The operation took place at midnight of Thursday and his body was exhumed and taken to town,” a source informed Punch Newspapers.
According to the police spokesperson, despite the ransome on his head, 2baba continued to forge attacks on the state , leading to his demise.
“But on February 17 at about noon, the gang attacked Okogbe Town and Odiokwu community, destroying several pipelines.
“On the same day, a raid on 2Baba’s new camp ensued, and despite a fierce gun battle, the gang members escaped, but intelligence later confirmed 2Baba’s death.” She said.
An Ak47 rifle, a G3 rifle, a scorpion rifle, a locally made double barrel gun and two locally made pistols, were recovered from the gang’s hideout, according to the police.
Other items retrieved included a one-cut-to-size double-barreled gun, a bulletproof vest, thirteen pieces of dynamite, five rounds of .9mm live ammunition, army camouflage, assorted charms, a human skull and a jack-knife.
