Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Two Workers at Lagos Factory’s Diesel Reservoir
Two men tragically lost their lives after accidentally plunging into a diesel reservoir at a factory located in the Oregun area of Lagos State on Saturday. The incident was confirmed by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Emergency responders were alerted following calls to the 767 and 112 toll-free lines at 10:37 a.m. LASEMA quickly mobilized its response team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja. Upon their arrival at the scene at 10:47 a.m., it was discovered that two adult males had fallen into the diesel reservoir.
Initial investigations indicated that the first man fell into the reservoir while working, and the second man subsequently fell in while attempting to rescue him.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, both victims were found in critical condition and were immediately given first aid before being transported to a local hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service. “First aid was administered on the victims immediately after their rescue. Both individuals were evacuated and transported to the hospital for further medical attention,” he stated.
Regrettably, despite the extensive medical efforts, both men succumbed to their injuries. Oke-Osanyintolu noted that emergency responders were continuing to assess the site of the incident to implement safety measures and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
