The National Union of Rivers State Students, Rivers State University Chapter (NURSS), is preparing to welcome its Year One students in a grand reception, which includes a knowledge-packed workshop tagged “Education: A Catalyst for Personal Development.” .
The event will take place on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the National Secretariat of the National Union of Rivers State Students, beside the Convocation Arena of Rivers State University.
The union, under the leadership of Comr. Michael A. G. Iboh has rolled out plans to welcome the new students of the University.
Michael Iboh, the President of the union announced the packages lined up for the program in a Facebook post. The program will offer school fee grants to students, cultural representation, entertainment, music, and lectures.
The event is themed “Education: A Catalyst For Personal Development” and aims to inform students about the usefulness of education in their personal development.
The Year One Reception is an annual ritual of the union to formally welcome the students to the university.
The President announced Comr. Philip I. Thomas, Comr. Friday Kennedy, and Engr. Amadi Hachimenum, as well as Hon. Prince Ohia, Engr. Soye Maxwell, and Dr. Harcourt Whyte, to lead the event.
The special guests include Engr. Chukwudi Ogbonna, Dr. Gilbert Godwin, and Prof. B. C. Opara.
The reception will also be graced by student leaders from the various institutions in Rivers State.
The current administration of Michael A. G. Iboh has been proactive in ensuring students enjoy good leadership. Comr Iboh had previously purchased free library cards for 200 Rivers State University students, a development he described as enabling students to focus on their studies and gain knowledge about the library settings.
NURSS is the apex student body that oversees the interests and welfare of Rivers State University students across various institutions and the Michael Iboh’s administration has made numerous positive moves upholding the purpose of the union.
In September of last year, Iboh donated a notice board to the Emouha campus of Rivers State University as part of his contribution to ensuring the new campus settled down well, particularly in the area of information dissemination to the students within the campus.
