A High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has sentenced Pastor Enoch Ebinyiam to life imprisonment for raping a minor, a daughter of one of his church members.

The pastor, who was with the Winners Chapel Church in Omuo-Ekiti, was found guilty of the crime and sentenced on Thursday.

According to the prosecution, the victim, a frequent visitor to the pastor’s vicarage, was sedated with a sleeping potion-laced Fanta and then raped by the pastor.

The girl, who was helping the pastor’s wife with house chores and assisting his children with their school assignments, woke up to find herself bleeding profusely from her private parts.

The pastor was arrested and charged with rape contrary to section 2 of the Gender-Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019. The Director of Public Prosecution, Julius Ajibade, presented four witnesses and two exhibits to prove the case, while the defendant’s counsel, Adeyinka Opaleke, defended his client and called one witness.

Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi delivered the judgment, stating that the prosecution proved the offence of rape beyond reasonable doubt. Consequently, the pastor was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
