VIDEO: Lagos Government Says It Will Relocate Computer Village to Kantangora

In a bid to reorganize markets within the state, the Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to relocate the bustling Computer Village from its current location in Ikeja to Katangowa in the Abule-Egba area.

In a video posted on TVC News Youtube Channel, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, a Special Adviser to the Governor on eGIS and Urban Development said Computer Village will be relocated along with other markets obstructing traffic flow in the central areas of the state to Katangowa market.

Dr. Olajide Babatunde made the disclosure during a joint inspection and enforcement exercise carried out by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, alongside law enforcement agencies and other relevant government bodies overseeing emergency-related matters.

Babatunde emphasized the government’s commitment to restructuring markets across Lagos, citing the imminent move of Computer Village as a significant step in this direction. He highlighted that the relocation aims to address congestion issues and enhance the overall organization of market activities.

Furthermore, Babatunde outlined the comprehensive facilities planned for the new market site in Katangua, which includes provisions for childcare, educational facilities, recreational spaces, religious centers, storage facilities, accommodations, and hotel amenities.

While acknowledging previous attempts to relocate Computer Village, including stalled efforts in 2017, the former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Wasiu Anifowose, emphasized the necessity of the move to alleviate traffic congestion in the residential area.

With the relocation set to commence in the coming weeks, the Lagos State Government reaffirms its commitment to urban development and aims to create a more conducive environment for both traders and residents, envisioning a vibrant and sustainable future for Lagos.

He also stated that the Katangowa market is being developed to meet world standard in terms of available facilities for the market users.
