Port Harcourt, Nigeria – A woman has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly killing her neighbor, identified as Augustine, by striking him on the head with a stone during a heated argument. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday in the Railway area of Elekahia, Port Harcourt.

Dispute Over Faeces Escalates into Tragedy

According to eyewitnesses, the dispute started when the woman accused Augustine, a man in his 60s, of defecating behind the compound. Augustine, who had just returned from work, denied the accusation, questioning why she would suspect him instead of the children living in the compound.

The argument quickly escalated when the woman allegedly threw sand at Augustine, prompting a physical altercation. During the scuffle, she reportedly picked up a stone and struck him on the head.

Attempts to Save Augustine Fail

An eyewitness, identified as Onyedikachi, recounted the incident to newsmen on Thursday, stating that Augustine was rushed to two different hospitals, both of which refused to attend to him. It was at a third hospital that he was finally confirmed dead.

Police Confirm Arrest, Launch Investigation

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the arrest of the suspect. However, she noted that the woman denied hitting Augustine with a stone, claiming instead that he had assaulted her first and that his children had been throwing stones at her.

“The woman is currently in custody, and an investigation is ongoing. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID). At the conclusion of our investigation, she may be charged in court,” Iringe-Koko stated.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, with many gathering at the Elekahia Police Station following the tragedy.
