A brazen bank robbery in Abuja has resulted in the death of a police officer and two robbers.

The incident occurred at a commercial bank in the Abaji Area Council, where the robbers first attacked a police station, killing Inspector Abila, before proceeding to the bank.

The robbers, who arrived in two unmarked vehicles, fired into the police station, killing Inspector Abila. They then moved on to the First Bank branch, shooting sporadically and attempting to access the strong room.

A combined team of police, soldiers, vigilantes, and hunters responded quickly, engaging the robbers in a fierce gun battle that left two robbers dead.

An angry mob seized one of the robbers’ corpses and set it ablaze.

FCT Police Commissioner CP Benneth Igweh confirmed the death of two robbers and commended the security team for foiling the attack. He also deployed the police anti-robbery squad and hunters to trace the fleeing robbers.

He further confirmed the death of Inspector Abila who was shot dead during the attack on the police station.

A bank staff member, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the robbers made away with some cash at the counter but failed to access the strong room.
