Abuja, Nigeria — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified its crackdown on counterfeit cosmetics in the Federal Capital Territory, seizing products valued at ₦37 million.
The operation, carried out by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, was prompted by intelligence reports on the distribution of illegal cosmetics. NAFDAC conducted coordinated raids across various locations, including popular supermarkets and open markets in Wuse and Garki.
In a statement released on Tuesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the agency disclosed that “several unregistered and counterfeit cosmetics were seized with a total street value of ₦37 million.” The agency further emphasized its commitment to identifying the sources of these products and taking strict regulatory action against those involved.
The seized items, which were unregistered and deemed to be counterfeit, will be destroyed according to NAFDAC’s laws and regulations to protect public health. The agency reiterated its dedication to removing harmful products from the market and ensuring consumer safety.
“All confiscated items will be destroyed in line with the agency’s laws and regulations, ensuring public safety,” NAFDAC stated.
