Abuja, Nigeria – Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Sunday issued a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio amid their ongoing legal battle.

The statement, laced with heavy sarcasm, was released to journalists in Abuja while Akpabio was on an official trip to Rome for the late Pope Francis’ funeral.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s letter comes months after a series of public clashes with the Senate leadership. She was suspended from the National Assembly on March 6 following a dispute over a new seating arrangement, which she claimed was a calculated attempt to humiliate her. The situation escalated when she accused Akpabio on national television of retaliating against her for allegedly rejecting his sexual advances.

The tension peaked internationally when, during a Women in Parliament event at the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Natasha called for global scrutiny of the Nigerian Senate. She criticized the harsh measures meted against her, including salary deductions, withdrawal of official security, and a six-month legislative suspension.

Amid heated legal exchanges, a court ruling barred both Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio from making further public statements on the matter pending the conclusion of legal proceedings. However, just two days after Akpabio led a federal delegation to the Vatican, the senator penned what appeared to be a mocking ‘apology’ addressed to the Senate President.

In the letter, she wrote, “Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio, It is with the deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret that I tender this apology for the grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect in your most exalted presence.”

She continued, “I have reflected extensively on my unforgivable failure to recognise that legislative success in certain quarters is apparently not earned through merit, but through the ancient art of compliance — of the very personal kind.”

Natasha further mocked the Senate President, lamenting her “refusal to indulge” his “requests” as a “constitutional violation of the unwritten laws of certain men’s entitlement.” She sarcastically apologized for choosing “competence over capitulation, vision over vanity, and the people’s mandate over private dinners behind closed doors.”

In a scathing conclusion, she wrote, “Please find it in your magnanimous heart — somewhere buried deep beneath layers of entitlement — to forgive this stubborn woman who mistakenly believed that her seat in the Senate was earned through elections, not erections.”

The letter was signed, “Yours in eternal resistance, Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan — Unafraid, Unbought, and Unbroken.”

The development has further deepened the already strained relationship between the two political figures, even as observers await the outcome of their ongoing legal tussle.
