Addressing reporters at the State House following the meeting, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde explained that the decision was made in response to widespread controversy surrounding the proposed legislation. The NEC, he said, seeks to create a more inclusive process that engages stakeholders directly impacted by the bills.

“Given the concerns raised, we have decided to pause and engage with relevant stakeholders to ensure their perspectives are integrated,” Makinde stated.

Further details on the revised approach are expected to be released in due course.
