New Leadership Announced for Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission
In a recent announcement by the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, a new chairman and members of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) have been appointed.
The appointed chairman, Dr. Micheal Ekpai Odey, will lead a team comprising six members, including four esteemed professors, as part of the commission’s restructuring. The announcement was made public through a Government Special Announcement released on Wednesday by Prof. Ibibia Worika, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government.
According to the statement, the new appointments will take effect starting Monday, April 7, 2025. The full list of appointments includes:
- Dr. Micheal Ekpai Odey, Chairman
- Mr. Lezaasi Lenee Torbira, Member
- Prof. Author Nwafor, Member
- Prof. Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha, Member
- Prof. (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor, Member
- Dr. (Mrs.) Olive A. Bruce, Member
- Prof. Chidi Halliday, Member
This restructuring follows Vice Admiral Ibas’s recent decision to suspend heads of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in the state, which previously included former RSIEC head Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retired).
As the new leadership prepares to assume their roles, all eyes will be on the RSIEC as it gears up for upcoming electoral responsibilities in Rivers State.
