The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has died at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
Iwuanyanwu’s son, Jude, confirmed his father’s passing in a statement on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
The elder statesman was a prominent figure in Igbo politics and culture, serving as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.
He is survived by his wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, and many children and grandchildren.
Iwuanyawu, a successful businessman and Chairman of Champion Newspapers, succeeded Amb. Obiora as the leader of Ohaneze. Amb. Obiora who also passed away while serving as Ohaneze President.
The late Igbo leader, who once ran for president as a candidate of a political party, contested the NRC presidential ticket but lost to the late Alhaji Bashir Tofa.
The family has announced that burial details will be revealed later after consultations.
