Police Parades 21 Alleged ‘Yoruba Nation’ Agitators for Invasion of Oyo Government Secretariat

The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command, held a parade on Monday, presenting 21 suspects believed to be connected with the invasion of the Oyo government secretariat on Saturday, April 13th.

The suspects, purportedly affiliated with the Yoruba Nation agitation, were apprehended following an earlier report by REPORT AFRIQUE detailing their claim of responsibility for the invasion.

During the parade, the police showcased seized exhibits, including firearms, ammunition, plaques adorned with the Yoruba nation insignia, as well as cutlasses, walkie-talkies, and various communication devices allegedly used by the suspects.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, addressing reporters, confirmed the intent to charge the suspects with treasonable felony and terrorism. He also emphasized ongoing investigations aimed at uncovering the identities of their sponsors, with additional suspects still being pursued.

Eyewitnesses recounted the presence of masked individuals stationed at different locations surrounding the secretariat, causing panic among residents and road users in the vicinity.

This disruption prompted swift reactions from businesses and residents in areas like Bodija, Ikolaba, and Awolowo, who promptly secured their shops and homes, with some abandoning plans to open for the day.
