Maiduguri, Nigeria – The Borno State Police Command has recovered three explosive projectiles hidden in a sack in the Dala Kafanti area of Maiduguri.
The discovery was made following a tip-off from a local resident, Asabe James, who reported a suspicious sack near her home. Acting promptly, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team from Base 13 in Maiduguri responded to the report.
According to a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, the operatives cordoned off the area and safely retrieved the explosives.
“On January 2, 2025, at approximately 09:25 hours, following a report from a resident of the Dala Kafanti area, the command’s EOD-CBRN team swiftly moved to the scene, cordoned off the area, and conducted a sweep, recovering three projectiles from the sack,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosives were abandoned by unknown individuals earlier that morning.

Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety. He praised the timely actions of the EOD-CBRN team and encouraged residents to cooperate with law enforcement.
This latest discovery follows significant achievements in 2024, including the recovery of 18 unexploded devices and the arrest of 721 suspects for various crimes across the state.
The Commissioner credited these successes to enhanced policing measures and emphasized the importance of community collaboration in crime prevention.
