Nigeria Police Force Condemns Unauthorized Use of Uniform by VeryDarkMan
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has issued a statement condemning the unauthorized use of its official uniform by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. This comes after the release of a video in which Otse is seen wearing police attire and referring to himself as CSP VeryDarkMan, declaring himself Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”
In the controversial video, the online activist expresses his commitment to cleansing the social media environment, particularly targeting online vendors he perceives as oppressors. He further claimed that, unlike traditional police procedures, he would publicly shame offenders based on available evidence.
Responding to the incident, the Nigeria Police Force has distanced itself from Otse’s portrayal and announced an investigation to trace the origin of the police uniform and to ascertain the nature of Otse’s actions. The Force acknowledged the creativity of Nigerian youths in content creation but emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations concerning police attire.
The police agency stated, “The unauthorized use of police uniforms, insignia, or related items constitutes a criminal offense under Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, attracting severe penalties.” They reiterated that such improper use compromises the values and integrity of the police force and will not be tolerated.
The public was reminded of the legal ramifications associated with the unauthorized use of police apparel, stressing that while they appreciate creative expressions, adherence to protocol is paramount.
