Akpabio Resigns Ministerial Position to Continue Presidential Bid Akpabio

The minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Godswill Akpabio, has resigned his position to focus on his 2023 presidential bid, REPORT AFRIQUE can confirm.

Akpabio’s resignation follows the directive by President Mohamadu Buhari that all serving ministers who are contesting for the 2023 elections should resign their current positions before the 16th of May, 2022.

The president gave the directives during the National Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom state declared his presidential interest in Ikot Ekpene last week with a massive turnout of supporters.

He is one of the leading contenders for the position under the APC.
