Benin City – The Edo State Government has formally requested Governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo to establish a transition team to facilitate the handover process between the outgoing and incoming administrations.

In a letter dated October 10, 2024, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Joseph Eboigbe, emphasized the need for both parties to engage in discussions and share vital information to ensure a smooth transition of power.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, in July 2024, had inaugurated a 20-member transition committee chaired by Eboigbe, who was then serving as the Special Adviser on Finance. The committee’s primary role is to oversee the seamless transfer of responsibilities from the current administration to the incoming one.

The letter from the SSG reads:

“As we prepare for the transition of power, we believe it is crucial to establish a smooth and effective collaboration between your team and our current administration. To facilitate this process, we invite you and your party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to initiate the formation of your transition team at your earliest convenience.”

The letter also proposed October 14, 2024, for the inaugural meeting of both transition teams and assured Okpebholo’s team of the necessary support to ensure an efficient handover. Eboigbe stated, “Together, we can set the foundation for a successful administration that meets the expectations of our constituents.”

As of the time of this report, neither Okpebholo nor the APC has issued an official response to the Edo State Government’s request.
