Fubara assured residents that despite the challenges, the state would emerge stronger, emphasizing that the crisis was shaping a greater purpose for Rivers people. “This is a season of love, sharing, and sacrifice. Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Embattled Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding peace and stability in the state, despite what he describes as attempts by political saboteurs to create instability and cripple economic activities.
Speaking during an Eid-el-Fitr visit by a delegation of Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic groups to his private residence in Port Harcourt, Fubara urged the people of Rivers State to remain patient and steadfast amid the ongoing political crisis.
The governor, who has been facing political turbulence, drew inspiration from religious history, likening the situation to the biblical account of Noah’s Ark. “If God could wait for even the snail to enter Noah’s Ark, then patience remains a virtue in our struggle,” he stated.
Fubara assured residents that despite the challenges, the state would emerge stronger, emphasizing that the crisis was shaping a greater purpose for Rivers people. “This is a season of love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain, and I know that everything happening now is leading us toward a greater purpose. No matter what, we will emerge stronger,” he said, as quoted by PM News.
He further condemned those allegedly orchestrating political instability, vowing that his administration would not allow any forces to derail governance or disrupt livelihoods. “Their aim is to create instability and cripple livelihoods, but we will not let that happen,” he declared.
The governor reiterated his dedication to justice and good governance, stressing that he would rather endure hardship than compromise his principles. He also affirmed his respect for constituted authority and pledged to maintain Rivers State as a model of peace and governance in Nigeria.
In response, the leader of the Muslim delegation, Nasir Uhor, pledged unwavering support for Fubara, commending his inclusive leadership approach. He urged the governor to remain resolute, citing Islamic teachings that uphold patience as a pathway to divine reward.
Uhor also appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s full authority, arguing that despite political unrest, the governor has demonstrated effective leadership.
