Amidst escalating political tensions, His Excellency,Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State has issued an executive order relocating the sitting of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Following the destructive act of arson that consumed the esteemed chambers of the Assembly in October 2023, Governor Fubara has directed that the legislative proceedings be temporarily held in the Auditorium of the Administrative section of Government House, Port Harcourt.
This decision comes against the backdrop of prolonged political animosity between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The state has been embroiled in a fierce power struggle, leading to sharp divisions within the State House of Assembly.
With 27 members under Martins Amaewuele as the Speaker, pledging allegiance to Mr. Wike, and the remaining members, led by Rt Hon Victor Oko Jumbo, declaring their support for Governor Fubara, factionalism has gripped the legislative body, exacerbating the state’s political instability.
