Speaking at the event, Keyamo highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s positive relationship with Governor Otti, describing the governor as a visionary leader admired by the people of Abia State.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has likened the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti’s time in the Labour Party to the biblical story of the prodigal son, expressing confidence that Otti will eventually return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Keyamo made the remark during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia International Airport. Governor Otti, who won the 2023 gubernatorial election under the Labour Party, had previously been a member of the APC in 2020 after leaving the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Speaking at the event, the minister highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s positive relationship with Governor Otti, describing the governor as a visionary leader admired by the people of Abia State.
“The President’s motivation was also the fact that he loves the governor of this state, he loves his spirit. I know the comments he has made about the governor of this state and how much people here love him so much. Today is not the day for politics, but he strayed away. He was with us; he strayed away like the prodigal son,” Keyamo said.
The minister also provided insights into the decision to upgrade the proposed Abia airstrip to an international airport, noting Governor Otti’s collaboration in the project.
“When I called Otti and I broke the news to him, he said no, I will partner with you. I will also put in counterpart funding; let us upgrade it to an international airport. This was what happened. As Minister of Aviation, I’m just telling you the trajectory,” Keyamo explained.
The Abia International Airport project is seen as a major step in boosting economic activities in the state and improving air travel infrastructure in the region.
