Additionally, the council commended the national chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, and his executive team for what they described as their commitment to maintaining order and stability within the party.
Owerri, Nigeria – The Imo State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has suspended its secretary, Paulinus Udechukwu, and legal adviser, Emeka Ihejirika, along with 28 other members. Their suspension, which will last for three months, was announced following a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Saturday.
According to the party leadership, the affected members were sanctioned for alleged misconduct, including indiscipline, insubordination, and actions deemed detrimental to the party’s stability. They are also accused of attempting to create internal discord within the party.
The state LP chairman, Calistus Ihejeagwa, stated that a five-member disciplinary committee has been set up to investigate the allegations against the suspended members, who are expected to appear before the panel.
During the meeting, the party also passed a vote of no confidence in Governor Hope Uzodimma, citing concerns over governance and economic hardship in the state. Party leaders criticized the governor’s alleged absence from the state and urged him to return and address pressing issues affecting the people.
Reading the resolutions of the meeting, Ihejeagwa declared, “The SEC expresses dissatisfaction with the state of governance in Imo and calls on Governor Uzodimma to return home and focus on the welfare of the people, as there is widespread hunger in the land.”
Additionally, the council commended the national chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, and his executive team for what they described as their commitment to maintaining order and stability within the party.
Suspended Legal Adviser Rejects Action
Reacting to his suspension, the party’s legal adviser, Emeka Ihejirika, dismissed the decision as illegitimate. He argued that the meeting convened by the state chairman lacked legal standing, as Ihejeagwa himself was facing allegations of financial misconduct and anti-party activities.
“Ihejeagwa has no authority to call such a meeting. He is being accused of financial recklessness and anti-party activities. What happened was simply a gathering of his loyalists making baseless pronouncements. The suspension is null and void,” Ihejirika asserted.
