Delta State, Nigeria – Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep divisions within the party at both state and national levels.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Nwoko lamented the growing internal strife that has plagued the party, making it difficult to effectively serve his constituents.

Citing Internal Crisis, Ned Nwoko Bows Out

Nwoko, a founding member of the PDP since 1999, explained that his decision to leave the party was not taken lightly but was necessary due to irreconcilable factional conflicts.

He pointed to a particular incident on January 29, where a violent altercation among top PDP functionaries reinforced his belief that the party was too fractured to function effectively.

“These divisions have made it increasingly difficult to unite and pursue the collective interests of our people,” he stated.

Despite his departure, Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided him, particularly in the 2022/2023 senatorial election, which allowed him to engage directly with his constituents.

However, he emphasized that his commitment to the people of Delta North remained his top priority. “During my campaign, I made solemn and actionable promises to my constituents—commitments I take seriously as a servant of the people,” he noted.

With the PDP’s current structure unable to support his agenda, Nwoko stated that moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would provide a better platform to fulfill his political responsibilities.

Nwoko’s defection to the APC marks a significant shift in Delta politics, as he has been a key figure in the PDP for over two decades. His departure is expected to impact the party’s structure and influence in the state.

In his farewell message, the senator reassured his constituents of his dedication to their welfare, promising to continue advocating for their progress and unity.

“While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship, unity, and the advancement of Delta North,” Nwoko concluded.

His move to the APC has sparked discussions on the evolving political landscape in Delta State as the 2027 general elections approach.
