Seyi Makinde also reflected on his journey to power, pointing out that the people of Oyo elected him in 2019 without the influence of political godfathers.
Ibadan, Nigeria – Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on Nigerians to safeguard the country’s multiparty democracy as the 2027 general elections draw near, warning against the risks of Nigeria becoming a one-party state.
Addressing recent speculation about a possible presidential bid, Governor Makinde dismissed the rumors. He made it clear that if he ever decided to run for president, he would personally announce his intentions. “I am old enough to make my own decisions, and if I want to do something, I will say it. No one can push their agenda onto me,” Makinde stated.
Speaking at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo, the governor emphasized that his achievements in office were not driven by personal political ambitions. “We didn’t achieve these things because someone has a presidential ambition,” he noted, stressing that his focus remains on his duties as governor.
Makinde also reflected on his journey to power, pointing out that the people of Oyo elected him in 2019 without the influence of political godfathers.
He reiterated the importance of a balanced political landscape, cautioning against a single party dominating Nigeria’s political sphere.
