The Federal Government has issued a clarification regarding the distribution of ₦573 billion among State Governors and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Ministry.

The clarification, provided by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, addresses misconceptions stemming from reports suggesting that each state received ₦570 billion individually under the World Bank-supported NG-Cares programme.

According to the Minister, the total amount of ₦573 billion was distributed collectively among the 36 state governors and the FCT Ministry from late 2023 to July 2024. The funds were reimbursed under the NG-Cares program, not allocated individually to each state. The breakdown of the distribution includes ₦135.4 billion in late 2023 and ₦438.36 billion disbursed last month.

The Minister emphasized that no state governor received ₦570 billion each, contrary to claims made by some media outlets. He urged the public to refer to the accurate figures provided and to avoid sensational or distorted reporting.

The NG-CARES Programme, an initiative of the Federal Government, is designed to provide swift support to the poor and vulnerable. Implemented through 158 ministries, departments, and agencies across 36 states and the FCT, this programme builds on previous successful donor-supported initiatives. Its goal is to increase access to essential services, food security, and grants for disadvantaged households and businesses.
