Port Harcourt, Nigeria — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has asserted his dominance in the political landscape, declaring that he is too formidable for any of his rivals to challenge.

He dismissed claims that his supposed political enemies, either real or perceived, could pose any threat to him.

Wike made this declaration during a civic reception organized in his honor by the Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress in Port Harcourt on Sunday. Addressing reports that the Ijaw people were against him amidst the ongoing political tension with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Wike stated that the Ijaw nation is solidly behind him.

He further noted that his decision to back Fubara as his successor in 2023 was made against the reservations of some Ijaw leaders.

“It is not true that the Ijaw people are fighting me. A father may have 12 children, and one can become an armed robber. These people going on television to attack me—where were they when we made an Ijaw governor? Nobody is fighting me. I am too big for anybody to fight. All these people put together cannot fight me,” Wike boasted.

He cautioned politicians outside Rivers State to stay clear of the state’s political affairs, warning that interference could lead to dire consequences. “I told them if you put your hand in Rivers State matter, fire will burn you. Today, they are crying everywhere. Instead of focusing on winning elections in their states, they were busy holding meetings in Enugu and Taraba states. Who is losing now?” he questioned.

Wike alleged that some individuals had attempted to sabotage the civic reception by sending people to bomb the venue at Rainbow Town, Port Harcourt, but stated that the suspects were apprehended by the police.

“They sent some boys to come and bomb this place with dynamite. They were arrested by the police. You are encouraging crime in Rivers State. Nobody has a monopoly on violence. We cannot turn investors away from our state through violence,” he said.

The Minister also criticized claims by some individuals of initiating the ring road project in Rivers State, arguing that the project was his brainchild.

“Today, they are going about bragging that they started it. Go to Abuja; I am repeating what I did in Rivers State,” he added.

Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, Chairman of the PDP Elders Council in the state, lauded Wike as the “most celebrated Rivers politician at the national stage.”

The event was attended by key members of the G-5, also known as the Integrity Group, led by former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Seyi Makinde; as well as Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri, and Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, among others.
