Chief Magistrate Court Sentences Jide Josiah Jisos to Six Months for UTME Impersonation
ABUJA – In a notable ruling, the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has handed down a six-month prison sentence to Jide Josiah Jisos, who had fraudulently posed as a representative of a non-governmental organization during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) detained Jisos while monitoring the examination at Brix Academy in Abuja. According to a statement from JAMBās spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, Jisos had attempted to deceive exam officials, claiming he was present to oversee the examination on behalf of an NGO.
His ruse was discovered when the head of the monitoring team questioned him about his role in the examination venue. Jisos failed to provide credible answers, leading to his arrest and subsequent handover to security personnel for further questioning. During this interrogation, he admitted to having no connections with any NGO and revealed that he was actually attempting to assist his daughter in taking the UTME.
Chief Magistrate Honorable Justice Folashade Oyekan subsequently found Jisos guilty of impersonation under a single charge. He was sentenced to six months in prison or an alternative penalty of a N100,000 fine. The specific date of the court’s decision was not mentioned in the statement.
