The engagement is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, and will take place in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

This development comes two days after the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, inaugurated the committee in line with the National Assembly’s resolution ratifying the presidential declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

House Leader and Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Julius Ihonvbere, said the session will allow lawmakers to evaluate the situation in the state since Ibas assumed administrative control. He noted that the engagement is essential for effective legislative oversight and is being conducted in accordance with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“Our objective is to gain firsthand insight into the current realities in Rivers State, so that the House can be properly informed in fulfilling its oversight duties in the public interest,” Ihonvbere said in a statement.

A formal invitation was reportedly sent to and acknowledged by the office of the Sole Administrator, confirming his expected presence at the Thursday session.

In a statement issued by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the committee reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, constitutional order, and national interest throughout its proceedings.

The committee’s mandate derives from constitutional provisions empowering the National Assembly to provide oversight and intervene in governance during a state of emergency.
