Rivers State Court Nullifies APC Congresses, Orders Reinstatement of Court Injunction
Port Harcourt – A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses in the state invalid.
The ruling came after a contempt of court motion was submitted by a faction headed by the party’s controversial chairman, Chief Emeka Beke, against the congress that led to the election of Chief Tony Okocha.
Prior to this, the court had issued an order that prohibited the congresses from taking place; however, the APC proceeded with the elections regardless. Members of the faction who had obtained the court order returned to the court to inform the judge that the congresses had occurred in defiance of the injunction.
Justice Godswill Obomanu, after considering the arguments presented by both sides, ultimately ruled that the congresses were null and void.
