The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the payment of bursary and scholarship grants for students hailing from Lagos State attending tertiary institutions.
During an interactive session with Student Union Leaders and Stakeholders held yesterday in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that scholarships will now be extended to less privileged and physically challenged students enrolled in public tertiary institutions, irrespective of their state of origin.
In a move aimed at fostering inclusivity and youth participation in governance, the Lagos boss also revealed the appointment of four former Student Union leaders as Senior Special Assistants, further underscoring the government’s commitment to engaging with the youth.
Speaking at the session, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of constructive engagement with students to gather feedback and suggestions aimed at improving infrastructure and creating a conducive learning environment in public institutions.
This initiative marks the Lagos State Government’s dedication to building a strong relationship between students, universities, and the government, fostering a sustainable ecosystem for positive development and growth.
The Governor’s decision to pay students bursary is timely following the harsh economic condition of Nigeria. The development will help cushion the hardship on students.
The Governor revealed the details of the meeting on his official X handle.
In a similar development, Governor Abiodun had last month announced the bursary payment of N50, 000 each to all recorded 27, 600 indigent students of Ogun State, a development which was revealed on the official social media handle of the state.
