A Mobile Court in Sokoto has remanded 109 protesters in prison following their arrest during a nationwide hunger protest.
The protesters, detained on the first and second days of the demonstration, were presented to the court by police on Thursday and Friday.
Justice Umar Idris Marafa, who presided over the case, has adjourned the hearing until August 15, 2024, for further proceedings. In the meantime, the suspects will remain in custody.
Police Confirm The Remand of Protesters in Prison
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ahmed Rufae, the public relations officer for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the remand and stated that the protesters are being held in prison until the next court date.
The protest in Sokoto has been halted by organizers due to the actions of miscreants who disrupted the demonstrations by vandalizing public property and attacking local traders.
