Jalingo, Nigeria – Atsi Kefas, the younger sister of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has passed away following injuries sustained in an accidental discharge by a police officer.

Reports indicate that Atsi, 44, died at an undisclosed hospital in Abuja, where she had been receiving treatment since the incident occurred.

The tragic event took place on December 5 when suspected kidnappers attacked the convoy of the governor’s mother, Jummai Kefas, along the Wukari-Kente road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. During the attack, a police escort in the convoy attempted to fend off the assailants but accidentally fired a shot that struck Atsi, who was seated next to her mother.

Initially rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Wukari, Atsi was later transported to Abuja for advanced medical care.

This development follows heightened security concerns in the region, where armed attacks have become increasingly frequent.
