Tinubu Heads to France for Three-Day State Visit

This visit marks Tinubu’s 32nd foreign trip since assuming office 18 months ago, and his fifth to France. In that time, the President has spent 131 days abroad, visiting 17 countries and logging approximately 278 flight hours.

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Wednesday for a three-day state visit to France, following an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron.

The visit aims to strengthen political, economic, and cultural relations between Nigeria and France while exploring opportunities for collaboration in various sectors.

According to a statement released by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the visit will focus on fostering partnerships in agriculture, security, education, health, youth empowerment, innovation, and energy transition.

On Thursday, President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will be officially received at Les Invalides, a historic French military museum, and the Palais de l’Élysée by President Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron. The welcoming ceremony will be followed by bilateral meetings aimed at expanding cooperation in areas such as automation, entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership development.

The two leaders are also expected to participate in high-level political and diplomatic engagements, covering finance, solid minerals, trade and investments, and communication. A session of the France-Nigeria Business Council will also take place during the visit, focusing on bolstering private sector participation in economic development.

Meanwhile, Brigitte Macron and Nigeria’s First Lady will discuss initiatives to empower women, children, and vulnerable groups, particularly through Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Initiative. The visit will culminate in a state dinner hosted by the French President in Tinubu’s honor.

Destinations visited include the United Kingdom (four times), Guinea-Bissau (twice), the United States, Germany, India, and Saudi Arabia, among others.

The President’s delegation to France includes top Nigerian government officials.
