Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has indefinitely postponed the scheduled Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to honor the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night.
Originally set for Wednesday, the FEC meeting has been deferred to a later date, which will be announced in due course, according to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The decision comes as a mark of respect for General Lagbaja, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his untimely death on November 5, 2024.
In addition to the FEC postponement, President Tinubu has directed that flags be flown at half-staff across the nation for seven days to commemorate the late general’s service and legacy. The President also extended heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces in the wake of this significant loss.
