The development follows President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly.
Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State. The swearing-in ceremony was held on Wednesday afternoon at the State House in Abuja.
The development follows President’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly.
Before the swearing-in, the President held a closed-door meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the newly appointed administrator.
In a nationwide address, the President justified the state of emergency, stating that the move was necessary to restore stability in Rivers State. He assured the public that the judiciary in the state would remain functional.
“In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State,” President Tinubu announced.
Vice Admiral Ibas will oversee the state’s administration for the next six months as part of the federal government’s intervention.
