Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu is set to receive Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a historic State Visit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the first visit by an Indian head of government since 2007.
This was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
According to the statement, Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Saturday, with formal engagements scheduled to commence on Sunday. The visit marks a significant milestone in Nigeria-India relations, with the last visit by an Indian Prime Minister occurring 17 years ago, when Dr. Manmohan Singh visited to solidify a strategic partnership between the two nations.
During their meeting, President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks aimed at further strengthening ties between Nigeria and India. The discussions are expected to culminate in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to boost cooperation across key sectors.
India, the world’s second-most populous country, has shared longstanding diplomatic and economic relations with Nigeria, and the upcoming visit is expected to open new avenues for collaboration.
