UK Government Establishes Groundbreaking Security Pact with Iraq to Combat People-Smuggling

The UK government announced on Thursday the formation of a “world-first security agreement” alongside several other cooperative initiatives with Iraq aimed at addressing the issue of people-smuggling operations and enhancing border security.

During her recent visit to Iraq and the autonomous Kurdistan region, Interior Minister Yvette Cooper emphasized the importance of these agreements, indicating they send “a clear signal to the criminal smuggling networks that we are committed to pursuing them on a global scale.”

The collaboration seeks to strengthen international efforts to dismantle trafficking gangs and safeguard borders, reflecting a proactive stance in the fight against organized crime. I
