Katsina State, Nigeria – In a shocking revelation, a 22-year-old undergraduate student, Ahmad Muhammad Kabir, has been arrested for providing crucial logistical support and supplying firearms to notorious terrorist groups operating in the region. The student, who is pursuing a degree in Geography and Regional Planning at the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), was apprehended by authorities while attempting to deliver a large cache of ammunition to bandits in Dutsinma.

According to an investigation report, Kabir implicated a fellow student, Manir Musa, as a collaborator in his illicit firearms supply operation. The authorities were alerted to Kabir’s activities after he was seen attempting to deliver the ammunition at a motor park in Dutsinma township.

During an interrogation session, which was captured on video, Kabir revealed that he had transported the ammunition from Nasarawa State, cleverly concealed within sacks of guinea corn to evade detection. The student admitted to being a key logistics supplier for terrorist organizations and disclosed that he had relocated to Dutsinma’s Hayin Danmani in the Igabi Local Government Area solely to pursue Western education at FUDMA.

Kabir claimed that he was approached by a friend, Manir Musa, who asked him to expect a call from someone and promised him a significant payment. He later received the call and was instructed to travel to Nasarawa State to collect a sack of guinea corn containing ammunition. The student confessed that he had never personally met with bandits before, but only communicated with them over the phone.

The arrest has raised concerns about the involvement of university staff members in aiding bandits. In June 2024, the Vice-Chancellor of FUDMA, Prof Armaya’u Bichi, accused some staff members of serving as informants to the bandits. The university launched an investigation into the allegations and identified several suspects who were handed over to security agencies for further investigation.

The arrest of Kabir has sparked concerns about the extent of terrorism financing and support networks in Nigeria. The authorities are working to unravel the web of connections between the student and other suspected collaborators in order to bring them to justice.
