The Rivers state police command says it has arrested a lawmaker, Hon. Chinyere Igwe, a PDP member of the House of Representatives, for being in possession of the sum of $498,100 in cash. The cash was also alleged to be meant for distributed for political purposes.
Igwe, a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Port Harcourt II federal constituency, was said to be arrested with a list for the distribution of the funds in the early hours of Friday morning along Aba road in Port Harcourt.
The police spokesperson in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the news saying the command is poised to ensure vote buying and money politics is reduced to the minimum during the 2023 elections that kicks off with the presidential race on the 25th of February, 2023.
Igwe allegedly mentioned that the money came to him from a popular presidential candidate to ensure his victory at the polls tomorrow in the state. Igwe is also the owner of a popular news channel, Atlantic Television.
