Wike refuted allegations that he is involved in land grabbing, asserting that it is impossible for him to seize land that falls under his jurisdiction.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has declared that he is fully in control of land matters in Abuja, emphasizing his commitment to addressing issues of land grabbing in the capital city.
Speaking on Thursday at a Thanksgiving service organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Wike expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as FCT Minister. According to him, the role has provided him with valuable insight into the workings of Nigeria.
Wike refuted allegations that he is involved in land grabbing, asserting that it is impossible for him to seize land that falls under his jurisdiction.
“Those who are grabbing land are the people I am dealing with,” he said. “We must thank Mr. President. If he didn’t give us this opportunity, we would not have known the way this country is.”
Wike added that his actions, though controversial to some, are rooted in his desire to ensure the right thing is done. “People say land grabbing. Do you grab what you are in charge of? I am in charge of land in Abuja. How will I grab what I am in charge of?” he asked.
The FCT Minister criticized past administrations for failing to enforce regulations, stating that his leadership under the “Renewed Hope Agenda” will not repeat those mistakes. “The fact that no government was able to do it yesterday doesn’t mean that this government cannot do it today,” Wike asserted.
He also dismissed attempts at blackmail, vowing to remain focused on his duties. “No matter the cry, no matter the propaganda, I will do what is right. My interest is doing the right thing, even if heaven comes, I will still do it,” he stated.
In his remarks, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, praised President Tinubu for appointing Wike as FCT Minister. He lauded Wike’s leadership and transformative efforts, noting that his achievements in Rivers State were not a fluke but a testament to his ability to drive development.
“Wike is working and transforming Abuja,” Nwuche said, commending the minister for his steadfastness in ensuring progress in the capital city.
